Things that go bump in the Night

“Good morning Michael. The reason we say Police is because “individual” officers appear to be supported by a system that allows them to get away with behavior that dishonored the badge time and time again. These are not isolated incidents. History and facts have proven that the police is a part of a systemically racist institution that participates in the oppression of black people in America. The spot light is on the entire police force. Not just individuals. Of course not the entire police force is bad. But too many “Good” police officers allow and protect the “bad” police officers when they do nonsense.

Being a police is a job. The fact that the police gets 30 million calls is irrelevant to the issues that US police force face. It is what you choose to do. Do you face adversity that the normal person does not? Yes and you should be praised for it. But you chose that job, you should not have immunity to do whatever you want.

Until police officers realize that the Police Force is flawed and there has to be major changes we will continue to see incidents like George Floyd. Further he is not an isolated incident. He just happen to be caught on tape. We watch that man die in front of our eyes. The officers participated and stood by while their fellow officer murdered a civilian. Where is the individuality in that.

I am sorry my brother, your rant falls flat in the face of the mounting daily   (For decades ) evidence that the Police Force in America is deeply flawed. I applaud your individual service as Michael Donaldson, because I know who you are and what you stand for. I know you and your personality, I know the good person that you are. But that does not translate to the Police Force. They didn’t make you, you made them better by being a part of their organization.

The Police Force is flawed and their dirty laundry is out for everyone to see. I read of ranting against people who criticize the police I would encourage you to speak truthfully about the failings of the Police and what you feel needs to be done to make them better.

In response I wrote, "And I would like to say I agree that there is a systemic problem, but the fact that I am black does not necessitate that I indict the numerous officers that neither cover up nor participate in corruption, brutality or discrimination.  After all someone took Chauvin into custody and put him in jail.

Regardless, I respect your point and would like to add that in the third quarter of this year I plan to release my book ARE WE FREE YET which addresses  issues of brutality, injustice, discrimination, and inequality from the perspective of being both black and a cop; the two sides do not always agree.

It is not always easy to make people understand, that the media drives the wedge between people, because that's how they make money, and emotion is not truth.  Because the media says that brutality is rampant does not make it true, but it certainly takes peoples minds off the failures in the handling of Covid, and the rising national crime rates.
